Good news! Pablo and I are going to Argentina March 12 – March 26, 2005. We are very excited. We will be staying with Pablo’s aunt Marta for the most part and a spattering of other people here and there. We don’t have very specific plans mapped out yet other than to visit Pablo’s friends and family. We had been planning to go over Christmas but airline tickets were incredibly expensive. Not sure why, but it was a little disappointing because December is summertime in Argentina. Tickets in March were several hundred dollars cheaper and that is my Spring Break from school so that’s how we chose the date. Our flight is direct from Dulles and is 9 hours long. So far it sounds like we will be spending the majority of our time in Buenos Aires.

If you ever get the chance, go to Argentina! It is beautiful! We flew into Buenos Aires and were met at the airport by Pablo’s aunt Marta. She allowed us to borrow her apartment during our stay. It was on the 10th floor overlooking the city. Each day we would go exploring in a different section of Buenos Aires and in the evenings we met up with Pablo’s extended family. Each night it was someone different. Over our first weekend there we went to the countryside to a place called General Belgrano. This is where Pablo’s mother spent her summers as a child. It is breath-takingly beautiful but there is not a thing to do in this small town. During the second week of our stay we flew to El Calafate in southern Argentina. It is cold and windy there but gorgeous. We took an excursion to see the glacier Perito Moreno and also to a ranch named La Estancia Rincon. In case you haven’t heard the good news, we got engaged in front of the glacier!!!! Yep, that’s right, you may have thought it would never happen…but it finally has! Upon our return from El Calafate we spent two more nights in the city and went to a tango show. By the end of our trip we were ready to return to our American lives with many momentos in tow. The pictures from the trip are up in my photo album.
